We are a Choir Community. Singers support one another, welcome new members with open arms, and grow together musically and personally. That sense of connection is as important to us as the final sound you hear on stage.
We work hard—very hard—on the details, the notes on the page, and the craft of making music together. But we also believe that music-making should be joyful. Rehearsals are full of laughter, learning, high expectations, and the kind of shared effort that brings out the very best in each singer.
Choir Season
Our choir season comprises 2 semesters, each with 2 performances. There is great advantage in singing together for two consecutive concerts. We get to know each other better as singers, and our directors value the continuity. But if someone is unable to commit to both, or if they want to join for the second concert, we are happy for them to participate.
- 1st Semester: Sep-Dec. 2nd Semester: Jan-May.
- Each semester opens with a half-day retreat, followed by 6-10 weekly rehearsals per concert.
- We typically perform 6-10 pieces per concert, and sometimes another musical ensemble will join us.
- Rehearsal materials are distributed through our member website, which include vocal part audio tracks to help choir members with their individual practice.
For someone new to the choir, one of our conductors will have them do a quick run of scales to test pitch and help place them in their vocal section. This is done just before or after their first rehearsal.
The Tilikum Choir Community is directed by John Baker and Amber Schroeder.
Dues
Membership dues are $200 per semester, which includes 2 concerts, and are used to help support the mission and operating costs of the choir. Those participating in only one concert in a semester contribute $100 for that concert.
If a financial contribution presents a hardship, contact membership@tilikumchoir.org or speak with Sandy Baker. We are committed to making the choir accessible and will work with members to ensure that anyone who wishes to participate is able to do so!
